What We Do
Working closely with our partners at the Aboriginal Housing Management Association, Housing Central delivers data-backed research and policy recommendations that strengthen the community housing sector and fulfill our shared mission of ensuring everyone in BC has a safe, secure, and affordable home.
Housing Central research has had a direct impact on housing policies at all levels of government, prompted the creation of the BC and Canada Rental Protection Fund initiatives, and helped people across BC understand the importance of affordable housing and the benefits it brings to their communities.
Each year, we host Canada’s premier affordable housing event. The Housing Central Conference draws 1,600+ delegates for three days of professional development, networking, and inspiration – raising the capacity of the sector so our members can deliver the best affordable housing in their communities.
Our History
In 2015 the Co-operative Housing Federation of BC (CHF BC) and BC Non-Profit Housing Association (BCNPHA) formed a strategic alliance through which to conduct advocacy work on behalf of the community housing sector in British Columbia. Our mission is to strengthen and grow the community housing sector so all British Columbians have a safe, secure home they can afford.
To date, Housing Central’s activities have been most prominent during election campaigns and with the development and launch of the 2017 Affordable Housing Plan for BC and the 2024 update, Build More. Protect More. A New Affordable Housing Plan for BC. Together, we also host Housing Central, an annual conference that brings the non-profit and co-op housing sectors together.
