Election Advocacy

Provincial Campaigns
Advocating for effective policy changes and long-term investments in the community housing sector, and ensure voters understand the value of affordable housing in their communities.
2024 Provincial Election
The 2024 election in BC provided an important opportunity to build on successful advocacy efforts that have helped to strengthen the community housing sector. Housing Central published Build More. Protect More. A New Affordable Housing Plan for BC to provide key policy recommendations for the incoming government, and delivered a comprehensive campaign to engage voters and build their understanding of the need for more affordable housing in communities across BC
2020 Provincial Election
For the 2020 provincial election, Housing Central built on the success of the Rental Housing Index by compiling a database of rental affordability information for each of BC’s 87 ridings to help voters and candidates understand the affordability situation in their communities.

Municipal Campaigns
Delivering tools, research and policy recommendations for local government candidates that support the community housing sector and build more inclusive communities.
2022 Municipal Election
Housing Central built the 2022 civic election advocacy campaign around the Housing Pledge so that mayor and council candidates could demonstrate their commitment to affordable housing. We also built a custom database for voters and candidates to explore the housing needs in their communities.
2018 Municipal Election
Make Housing Central! was the message for the 2018 campaign, setting the stage for future advocacy efforts. We created a database for each community in BC to showcase demographic data, the proportion of households overspending and those that were overcrowded.

Federal Campaigns
Advocating for national leadership on housing with stable funding and programs that expand affordable housing and reduce homelessness.
2019 Federal Election
In 2019 Housing Central created the Rental Housing Index, a comprehensive database that compiles rental housing statistics for cities, regions, and provinces across Canada. Users can discover how much rent Canadians are paying in different parts of the country, compare affordability measures and find out where residents are overcrowded and severely overspending on housing.
