2018 Day 1 #HousingCentral Conference

The first day of the #HousingCentral Conference started off with some light breakfast and morning networking. Bring on day 1!

Our first two keynotes of the day were Premiere John Horgan and Minister Selina Robinson. It was a full house for the morning plenary!

BCNPHA CEO Jill Atkey opens the Housing Central Conference by talking about how it has truly been a transformative year for the affordable housing sector – “We all have a stake in ensuring everyone has a safe, secure and affordable home”.

What a great start to the conference as delegates heard firsthand from keynote Hon. John Horgan, Premier for British Columbia!

It wasn’t long before #HousingCentral was trending number one on social!

The Hon. Selina Robinson, Minister of Municipal Affairs & Housing reminds everyone at #HousingCentral that “there’s no place like home”.

We know registrants look to the #HousingCentral Conference for quality education that will help them operate their society more effectively and, in turn, improve the services they provide to their clients and tenants. A wealth of knowledge was absorbed by our delegates!

Our day 1 lunch plenary started with CHRA’s Jeff Morison talking about how research and motivation will help develop similar messages across the board with various partners in the affordable housing sector.

Lifelong trans and social justice advocate Tracee McDaniel shared her personal story and the amazing work that she has done building allies in the struggle for equality for trans and gender non-conforming peoples.

The Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart tells Housing Central about his plan for Vancouver’s “acute housing crisis” – “We are trying to make Vancouver a globalist city when it comes to housing solutions”

Members helped shape the future by participating in an annual general meeting for the Co-operative Housing Federation of BC to learn what their organizations have accomplished in the past year and what’s being planned for the year ahead.

Delegates joined more than 50+ tradeshow exhibitors from across BC and Canada for the latest products, programs and services designed to meet all housing needs!

Let’s celebrate! More than 400+ delegates joined us for a fun-filled evening at the Sector Supper, a chance to relax and enjoy great conversation with housing colleagues over a delicious new dinner menu and live entertainment.

Every day we are moved by the stories we hear and proud by all the work our members are doing to ensure British Columbians have access to safe, secure affordable housing. Delegates at the Sector Supper helped us recognize the difference these individuals and organizations are making by celebrating the recipients of the 2018 BCNPHA Awards!

After dinner, delegates jammed out at Housing Central!
