Election Advocacy
2022 Municipal Election Campaign
During the 2022 municipal elections, the Housing Central partners called for mayor and council candidates to sign the Housing Pledge to demonstrate their commitment to affordable housing.
2020 BC Provincial Election Campaign
British Columbians will elect their new provincial government on October 24th, 2020. There is no question that affordable housing and homelessness are amongst the top issues affecting voters. Building on the success of our Rental Housing Index, we have compiled easy to navigate rental affordability data in each of B.C.’s 87 ridings to help you evaluate the affordability situation in your local riding. This was compiled using the most recent Statistics Canada census data to lay out a variety of information including average rental housing costs, housing costs as a percentage of income, as well as overcrowding and other useful statistics to measure housing affordability.
2019 Federal Election Campaign
Canadians will elect their new federal government on October 21, 2019. The need for affordable housing is a persistent issue facing communities across the country that all parties should be addressing in this election campaign. We are asking all parties and their candidates, to “Make Housing Central” in their campaigns.
2018 Civic Campaign
During the lead-up to the October 20th, 2019 civic elections, we are asking our non-profit and cooperative housing members to take action in helping us to ensure that affordable housing is addressed by their candidates. We are also asking all candidates across the province to Make Housing Central in their campaigns.
There is no question that affordable housing is one of the single most important issues that all candidates should be addressing in this election period.
As part of our ongoing advocacy for our members, the BC Non-Profit Housing Association (BCNPHA) and the Co-operative Housing Federation of BC (CHF BC) have joined together under the umbrella of “Housing Central.” Our focus during the campaign period will be to engage and educate candidates on the need for safe, secure and affordable housing and to support our members in connecting and engaging with their local aspirants.
